Common concerns
Why focus on strengthening?
A normal response to having pain in a part of the body is that you strength and size in the surrounding muscles. That strength doesn’t come back by itself when you’re experience no pain. Following a pre-designed strength program that targets the most common deficits or a bespoke program to focus on your specific areas is the best way to restore lost muscle strength and size.
Will this make my pain worse?
The aim of the program is to reduce pain levels and none of the exercises selected should increase pain in your back. For most who stick with the program they notice significant reductions in pain. Fluctuations in pain are normal throughout the rehab process though, there are usually a few ups and downs along the way.
What if I haven’t exercised in years?
Not a problem. The program is organised in a way to allow different entry points depending on your training history.
Do I need gym access?
No, many people complete their training at home. Eventually though, as your strength increases, purchasing some extra weight by way of an adjustable dumbbell or two is generally what most people who aren’t attending a gym do.
How much time do I need to commit?
Usually, 3 times a week is recommended with sessions taking between 30-45 minutes depending on the individual. However, if time is a challenge, your rehabilitation program can be tailored accordingly.
